John Brewer is a third generation jazz musician from Kansas City, home of the blues and barbeque. His love of jazz led him to New Orleans when he was 18, where he went on to receive a bachelor’s in jazz piano performance from Loyola University and a masters in jazz piano performance from the University of New Orleans. John also spent a semester abroad in Ghana, West Africa where he studied music and culture. After a brief stint in New York City, John moved back to KC and spent five years as a full time firefighter by day and musician by night. Upon meeting and marrying his wife Kylie, they moved back to New Orleans where John pursued full time music and worked as Terence Blanchard’s personal assistant and tour manager. With the birth of their first child, the Brewer’s moved to Branson where John studied ministry and a year later John was offered a full time job as a worship pastor launching the Brookside campus of Christ Community (a multi site church in Kansas City). John and Kylie currently have 3 children and live and work in Brookside, Kansas City pursuing their love and passion for the city.
John Brewer sings and plays a variety of jazz, R&B, and Blues standards in the style of Harry Connick, Jr, Eric Clapton, and Ray Charles. In short, he plays the American Songbook.
