John Brewer is a third generation jazz and blues musician from Kansas City, home of the blues and barbecue. His love of music led him to New Orleans when he was 18, where he went on to receive a Bachelors in Jazz Piano Performance from Loyola University and a Masters in Jazz Piano Performance from the University of New Orleans. John also spent a semester abroad in Ghana, West Africa where he studied music and culture. After a brief stint in New York City, John moved back to KC and spent five years as a full time firefighter by day and musician by night. Upon meeting and marrying his wife Kylie, they moved back to New Orleans where John pursued full time music and worked as Terence Blanchard’s (jazz trumpeter and film composer) personal assistant and tour manager. With the birth of their first child, and after a year of studying ministry, John accepted a position as a full time worship pastor, launching the Brookside campus of Christ Community (a multi-site church in Kansas City). In 2019, John transitioned to part time at the church so he could focus more on his family, recording, scoring for film and performing. John and Kylie currently have 3 children and live in the Old Sagamore neighborhood of Mission Hills, pursuing their love and passion for Kansas City.
